New Orleans Convention...
I took a trip to New Orleans this year for an SEO convention. I had a
great time! I learned a lot from the convention and I also took a trip on
the bayou. The tour company was Louisiana Swamp Tours. I hope that
everyone from the company is ok after the hurricane!
The first stop on our trip was at the Oak Alley Plantation. It's a
beautifully restored house which was one used to house cows! The house
sits right below the Mississippi River. It was a little disturbing
watching all of the barges and riverboats pass by above the house!
The plantation got it's name from the Live Oaks which line the main road to the
house. These trees pre-date the house and are absolutely beautiful!
This large bowl was used to make sugar from the cane grown on the plantations.
Many of these sugar bowls have survived and are now used for a water garden and
fish habitat.
After our 2 hour visit was through at the plantation, we got back on the bus and
headed out to the bayou. It was an awesome trip to what seemed like a land
time had forgotten. It was almost like living in prehistoric times.
There were lots of gators on this tour and plenty of historical things to see.
Our guide had spent his entire life on these bayous having grown up nearby.
He told us that his mother didn't have electricity or running water until the
1970s. Our guide definately knew his gators! He got them to jump out
of the water for pieces of chicken. Some gators came almost all the way
out of the water to get it! Our guide was crazy enough to grab gators by
the tail as they tried to swim off! They thrashed and fought until he
finally let them go. Yep, this guy was insane! haha
