Below is my mountain bike.  I built it all by hand.  I had some bomb proof wheels made with Chris King disc hubs, large gauge spokes, and Mavic ceramic rims.  To them I mounted my XT disc brakes.  This is a pretty sweet frame that is very quick in the turns and hand made by LEADER bike.  I have XTR shifters and derailleurs.  Check out my chain ring guard which is called an "Engagement Ring".  It has taken it's share of beatings when I didn't quite clear a log, creek, rock, or other obstacle.  I really like the combination of my Judy XC shock and Chris King headset.  The shock has 100mm of travel and 12mm of negative travel.  The King headset, and hubs are as smooth as glass and definitely worth the price.  This is a pretty sweet and light XC bike.  I used to have a fully suspended GT, but it couldn't take the abuse as it was not the top of the line frame, and weighed a ton.  Besides, who needs a DH bike in KANSAS??!!

Below is a picture of my old frame.  It broke three times right where the rear shock attaches to the frame.  Cracked it right through the frame every time.  The frame wasn't made for me to be doing four to six foot drops.
